Gogglebox has been a surprise success on Australian TV, with droves of Aussies tuning in to watch other people watch television.
It’s really all thanks to the hilarious commentary provided by the various households, but it turns out that the Goggleboxers are not friends!
Melbourne couple Wayne and Tom opened up and explained that the families are actually banned from meeting one another.
Wayne told news.com.au, “We’ve never met, and we’re not allowed to, both physically or over social media. It’s really to keep the continuity of the show — there’s always the danger that households could meet up and it’ll change the way they appear on the show. I have no problem with it.”
But they already know exactly which other households they’d like to catch up with and what they would do.
Tom said, “I’d love to have a beer with Keith. I reckon I might spill a beer on their lounge and Lee would go off at me, and I’d love to be there when that happens. But we’ve got to know the rest of the families on TV, and I love seeing them each week. I’d love to spend a night with those girls [Anie and Yvie] and the dog! And I don’t think I could outdrink Di, but I’d have a go.”
An episode with all the families together in one room would be amazing – we’d love to see that happen one day if the restrictions are ever lifted!
Gogglebox airs Wednesdays at 7.30pm on Foxtel’s The Lifestyle Channel and Thursdays at 8.30pm on Ten.
