When looking back at one of the best series of all freakin’ time, aka Gossip Girl, what many of us remember most are the beloved characters and their relationships which we all at some point envied.
One of those couples, of course, is Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass.
Their love story was a roller coaster and had more plot twists than a bad soap opera, and was a little unhealthy at times, but that never stopped us loving them both to bits!
You’d think that their love story would have been fated from the very beginning, but the show’s creator has come out of the works to reveal some inside goss that could have completely changed the show we know and love…
Because “none of that”, none of the love and chemistry and plot twists and passion, were initially going to be in the show.
Josh Schwartz revealed to Vulture:
“None of that was expected. Chuck came into the show as the villain. But it’s one of those great, fun things about making a television series — it’s an evolving, living, breathing thing, and things can easily change on a whim.
“You get an actor like Ed Westwick and see the chemistry he had with Leighton Meester, and their scenes just crackled. So it felt like, here are two people who are bonded by their mutual scheming and the dark side of the show, at least from the beginning, and that would naturally evolve into a romantic relationship. One that was fraught and often conflict-laden, but ultimately incredibly romantic and fulfilling for both the characters and the audience. They came into the show as very different kinds of roles, but the chemistry between them took over.”
We’re lucky Ed and Leighton had such passionate chemistry, or else we would never have been blessed with Chuck and Blair’s endless #CoupleGoals!
