“Do you have flybuys?” We all get asked this question at the checkout. Now, there’s a brand new incentive to rack up those points!
A new rewards deal means you can earn frequent flyer points by scanning your flybuys card. The new system emulates the agreement between rivals, Qantas and Woolworths.
Virgin Australia frequent flyers will be able to swap out their points earned at supermarkets, petrol stations, and other partners to get flights or upgrades.
Every dollar you spend earns one flybuys point, and 2000 flybuys points earns you 870Velocity points. For reference, flights between Sydney and Melbourne are worth 7800Velocity points.
Shoppers will also be able to earn “status credits”, a world-first which bumps up customers to a higher membership class. That means lounge access and other perks. You’ve got to spend $100 to gain one “status credit”, and 250 of those will advance you from the basic Velocity membership to a silver membership.
