We've teamed up with our mates at Flight Centre to help you make the most of your next trip to Thailand!
Here are ten things you absolutely have to do or see when you’re planning your Thailand vacay.
1. Ayutthaya Historical Park
A totally unique, spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site an hour’s drive from Bangkok. Ayutthaya was the country’s second city until 1767 when it was destroyed by the Burmese. The remains have survived under the ground for hundreds of years and have now been revealed in an extraordinary archaeological park.
2. Shop up a storm in Bangkok
The Thai capital is famed for its incredible shopping. There are tons of malls - way too many to visit them all (but we'd definitely give it a go)! We recommend arriving with an empty suitcase, because you'll probably find yourself stocking up on a whole new summer wardrobe.
Chatuchak Park, is literally a breath of fresh air from the congested hustle-bustle of Bangkok. Boats, trees, bridges, playgrounds, grass, and plenty of stunning backdrops for your Instagram shots. It’s all here.
4. Veggies by boat
Normally when you go on holiday you probably don’t buy that many vegetables. Maybe because they aren’t brought to you BY BOAT. That’s right. You can buy a cabbage from an old woman on a boat. Don’t pretend that isn’t on your bucket list.
5. Elephants in Chiang Mai
Getting up close to these magnificent pachyderms is one of the best things about Thailand. While there are places where you can ride them or even watch them playing soccer and painting (yes, really – they’re better than 90% of people), these places are generally looked down on ethically. So, head for a reputable place like Elephant Nature Park, where you get the experience and intimacy with the safe knowledge that the welfare of the animals is the highest priority.
6. Do Wat?
Thailand has more than 40,000 temples in Thailand. 200 of these alone can be found in the old town of Chiang Mai, which is an easy walk and one of the country’s most stunning destinations. Perfect for stepping up your Instagram game.
7. Spa and away
You can’t go to South East Asia and not get a massage. It won’t be hard to find a place, they’re everywhere. We'd recommend booking yourself in for a full day pampering experience!
8. Cooking up a storm
When you’re all done with the elephants and the Wats, and maybe got a massage or two, Chiang Mai also has a ton of cooking classes! These are really fun and a great way to show off to your friends back home by making some delicious, blisteringly hot Thai curries or other local delicacies.
9. Party in Phuket
Phuket’s nightlife is legendary. Think world class DJs, beach clubs, cocktail bars and the kind of parties you can only dream of. It's a place to let loose, and an absolute must visit for you and your girls.
10. Watch the sunset at Sri Panwa
The Baba Nest is one of the most spectacular bars in the world. Take a giant cushion and crash out next to the pool as the ocean lays out in front of you. Perfect for impressing that special person!
