Kenny Baker, the beloved actor who played much loved R2D2 in the Star Wars films has passed away.

Everyone remembers R2D2 from the treasured Star Wars films.

Kenny Baker is the actor behind the character which shot him to fame in 1977, with the first Star Wars film.

The British actor, who was 3ft 8in tall, played the featured role in six of the Star Wars films and also starred in the popular films The Elephant Man, Time Bandits and Flash Gordon from the 1980s.

In an interview with The Guardian, his niece Abigail Shield made a tribute in his honour, saying "He had a very long and fulfilled life. He brought lots of happiness to people and we'll be celebrating the fact that he was well loved throughout the world. We're all very proud of what he achieved in his lifetime."

Kenny passed away at the age of 81, after longstanding illness.

Friends, fans and co-stars of Kenny have taken to social media to share their heartfelt messages and tributes.
