We're still recovering from the blow to the heart which was the news that the next instalment of the Divergent series won't be coming to our film screens...
Lionsgate made the decision to cull the next instalment, Ascendant, from our theatres and move it straight to television. Initially, it was said it would play out as a movie for television, but then news broke that it would become a 13-episode series (which would then lead into a spin-off series).
Of course, we want a film and not a series. And we want the original cast in it, because it will never be the same if they're not.
But considering the cast's contracts specifiy they are onboard only if the project has a theatrical release, those dreams of the television production showcasing their beautiful faces were shattered.
Now, another devastating blow has been delivered, because the film's lead actor Shailene Woodley (Tris) has spoken out about whether she will be starring in the next instalment.
The verdict: She is NOT interested.
The star was asked by Screen Rant about her thoughts on the situation and replied;
"Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn't sign up to be in a television show.
Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I'm not necessarily interested in doing a television show."
We're trying to wipe our tears away, too.
While the prospect of another film is looking pretty dismal at the moment, we're going to cling to the hope that Lionsgate "may have changed their mind and may be doing something different."
All we can do is hope...
