It's summer time, which means most of y'all will be heading for the beach to soak up the sunshine and party hard.

Some of you might also be chasing that perfect golden tan, because you think you're going to look your best self with it.

First off, you're your best self exactly the way you are.

Secondly, if you're planning to go tan crazy some time soon, you NEED to take into account the scary effects you're opening yourself up to.

We should all know by now that tanning ups your risk of getting skin cancer, which is scary enough in itself.

But there's other effects you might not be aware of.

A tan isn't a sign of good health. You've exposed yourself to too much UV radiation and a tan = damage to your skin.

Aside from increased risks of skin cancer, frequent tanning will cause your skin to lose its elasticity, meaning:

- More wrinkles.

- More skin discolouration.

- More sagging.

- More sun spots and freckles.

So no only are you at risk of serious health concerns, but you're going to end up not looking as hot AF as you're planning to by getting that golden tan.

Dermatologist Jerry Brewer recently revealed that "there is no amount of tan that is healthy", so think twice before you go tan-crazy this summer.

And remember: slip, slop, slap that sun-screen on!
