If you, or someone you know, is slim even though you eat like a gremlin, it turns out there’s more to do with it than just genes.

We all know someone who stuffs their face with calories day in and day out, hasn’t done physical exercise before in their lives and somehow looks Mowgli from The Jungle Book.

Well, two Aussie science experts are here to clear things up a bit. Ruben Meerman ‘The Surfing Scientist’ says it could be a result of how fidgety you are!

“What's been discovered through a very clever experiment with a whole bunch of people is that they overfed some people and some got fatter than others.

"The people who didn't get fat, it turns out that they're fidgeting. The big fancy word for this is Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT).

"But, if you watched yourself 24 hours a day, you would probably note that although you don't think you're exercising, you're probably jittering and fidgeting more, you're moving more, you're doing little motions, they all move muscles, they all consume energy.

"So you don't look like you're doing exercise, but actually, your physical activity level is a little bit higher than those unlucky, not skinny friends."

Australia’s dad - Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki then added this bombshell:

"By fidgeting, [you can] burn up more energy per day than it takes to run a marathon."

So,every time you tie up your hair in a ponytail and then take it out again, and then tie it back up again… that’s a workout, my friends.

If you are concerned about your health and/or weight, be sure to see a doctor!
