A bride has stunned her family and friends by walking down the aisle on her wedding day nearly eight years after being paralysed in a swimming accident.

Jaquie was paralysed at the age of 17 after diving into a friend’s pool and breaking her neck. At the hospital doctors told her she was paralysed, and she recalled being able to feel her limbs but not move them.

However she was eventually able to move her big toe, and she spent hundreds of hours in physical therapy and the gym to increase her strength.

She met now-husband Andy Goncher on a dating app five years after the accident, and he proposed two years later. She decided to make it a goal to walk down the aisle at their wedding, and a year later on May 22, 2016 she achieved her dream.

"It's so easy to forget how miraculous it is that I can walk now since it's the journey I've been going through for eight years. But when people react with such emotion and awe, it reminds me of just how blessed I am," Jaquie told Fox 59.
