Queensland Police say it is a “miracle that anybody survived” the tragic accident at Dreamworld Australia.
Two children, aged 10 and 13, were ejected from the ride and managed to survive. “In terms of how they escaped… from what I’ve seen it’s almost a miracle that anybody came out of that. If we’re going to be thankful for anything, I’m going to be thankful for that,” Queensland police assistant commissioner Brian Codd said.
He also described how the ‘Thunder River Rapids’ attraction malfunctioned.
“We know that an occurrence has seen that the particular flume be turned over and flipped resulting in it falling back on top of those persons and those persons being variously caught in machinery.”
Mr. Codd also said that police owe it to the deceased, their families “and the community of Queensland to get to the bottom of what caused this and hold anyone accountable.
“Most particularly ensuring that this can never happen again. These types of investigations are not quick and take a lot of time."
