Taronga Western Plain Zoo in Dubbo have welcomed their very first Asian Elephant calf and he’s SO CUTE!

Mama elephant, Thong Dee is doing aye-okay spending plenty of time getting to know her new bub.

Elephant Supervisor, Glenn Sullivan has shared:

“Everything went very smoothly with the birthing process. Thong Dee and the calf are in good health and spending time together in the elephant barn. We have seen the calf suckling and we’re really pleased with the maternal behaviours we’re observing.”

The tiny living trumpet is the second for Thong Dee, who gave birth to Australia’s VERY FIRST éléphant, Luk Chai, back in 2009.

Taronga Western Plain Zoo has also posted this exciting notice:

“The Zoo will soon be announcing a competition to help choose a name for the calf.”

So you all better start thinking of entries now! Give us your suggestions in our Facebook comments!
