We’ve all had our fair share of run-ins with not-so-friendly magpies.

It can be pretty terrifying being hunted down by a swopping bird like we are a worm wriggling along the ground.

But we’re here to tell you to NEVER FEAR, because magpies aren’t the menacing creatures you should be worrying about.

Nope, in our great Australian homeland there is a new terror on the rise and it’s not a tiny magpie.

It’s an emu.

Yes, you heard that correctly.

A cyclists was chased by an emu recently as he rode along a quite Canberra road and it was all caught on video.

The man who filmed the video, Chris Wilson, spoke with the Canberra Times, saying, “It did all these things like it's trying to intimidate you.

"I was on my bike facing it so I had to turn around and when I got about five metres away to a distance it was comfortable with it just stopped and turned around."

While we’re not exactly going to be confronted by an emu on the city streets, at least we know there are bigger things to fear than cheeky magpies.

City folk have it easy…
