Australia continues to prove how bloody good we are on the sporting field, already kicking off the gold medals before the Rio Olympics start in twelve days.
After falling miserably short in 2014, we’ve taken out the highly sought-after 2016 Quidditch World Cup title in a fiercely contested tournament held in Frankfurt, Germany.
It’s a pretty big deal and thanks to the ‘Dropbears,’ we have come out on top.
The intense two-day tournament saw us undefeated, knocking out Belgium, Slovakia and Ireland in the group stage, before breezing through Germany, France and Canada to take on the USA in the intense final.
Quidditch Australia celebrated the victory on Facebook.
“WE DID IT! The Dropbears get gold at the 2016 IQA Quidditch World Cup taking out America 150*-130 in the United States first ever loss.”
"Today we showed the world our strength and determination, but more importantly our love for this sport and community."
Real life Quidditch has been running for over a decade and has the same rules in the Harry Potter books and movies.
But instead of flying, players run around on a broom stick, sprinting, tackling, throwing and chasing that magical Golden Snitch.
Congratulations Dropbears, you've done us proud!
