To the folks of Australia, our great and fair dinkum country, we seem to have a bit of an over-confidence problem.
Or perhaps we should call it a ‘we’re in over our head’ problem, because there’s a little place in Melbourne where everyone seems to be forgetting the gosh darn height of their heads and ploughing straight into things that are NOT over their heads… metaphorically and literally.
Some of you may be well aware of the infamous Montague Street Bridge in Melbourne, where many people think that 3 metres of vehicular headroom is enough for a freakin’ plane to pass under.
Why? Because we don’t know how many freakin’ times someone has had their judgement of height fail majorly as they drive on under the bridge, only to have the top half of their definitely-not-3m-high-vehicle getting a nasty haircut.
This somewhat of a landmark has gained a bad rep and the impact-count has reportedly now risen to 108, after yet another truck had a collision with the bridge.
Obvs we think we are so tough that signs can’t tell us what to do, because people are ignoring the gantries which have been installed…
TOP TIP: the Montague Street Bridge is NOT Platform 9 ¾ - you will not be able to magically fit if you keep on driving…
You will not pass go and some over-priced repairman is going to be collecting a helluva lot more than $200 from your pockets…
Looks like the whole Montague name might have a string of bad luck attached to it… we’re looking at you, Romeo.
