When it comes to pure indulgence, it appears we’ll reach for some Cadbury chocolate over Lindt and Darrel Lea any day.

The British treat has taken top honours for ‘Confectionary’ in the annual Reader's Digest Most Trusted Brands Survey, ahead of the Swiss brand and Aussie treat.

More than 2,400 adults across the country were polled on what brands they prefer and trust, in a whole range of categories from banks to cars, sunscreen, insurance companies, supermarkets and whitegoods.

The overall brand winner was vacuum cleaner brand Dyson, ahead of Energizer and Duracell.

The trusty Hills Hoist stole the Aussie Iconic Brand spot while Bunnings is the most trusted retailer with JB Hi-Fi and Target highly commended.

We like to barbecue on a Weber, take care of our skin using Nivea, drink a glass of Jacob Creek’s wine and drive Toyota's with Bridgestone tyres.

Commonwealth Bank tops the list of trusted banks ahead of NAB and Westpac, while if there's one particular charity Aussies trust in 2016, it's Guide Dogs.
